Two-storey home in Clamvale, Brisbane designed by Building DesignerMany people are unaware that a Building Designer in Queensland can perform the same scope of work as an Architect.  As long as the Building Designer is licensed by the Queensland Building Services Authority to an appropriate level the sky is the limit.  Projects can range from small residential renovations or extensions to large commercial factories or high rises.

At Impact Design and Drafting our passion is residential projects and it has been for the last 5 years.  We have designed numerous homes, decks, patios, extensions and renovations. Brisbane and the surrounding regions is where we predominately service, however, we have performed work as far north as Yandina, Sunshine Coast and as far south as Pottsville, Northern New South Wales.

Any design or documentation work needs to be performed by a suitably licensed Building Designer.  Before engaging a Building Designer ask to see their license and make sure that the license they have is appropriate for the scope of work you propose.  Even if a Building Designer is licensed it is no guarantee you will get a good job.  Asking for references and evidence of past projects is a good way of determining if the Building Designer is right for your next project.

About the Author Brett Richardson

I have been a Building Designer since 2007 working on a wide range of residential projects around South-East Queensland which has given me the experience and knowledge to be confident in my designs.  When I'm not in the office I will either be surfing, camping, renovating or generally just staying active.  I've just started Pickleball as well (Google it!)
